Three Qualities of Lewis Hamilton You Need to Develop in F1

Welcome to a new blog post.

Today, we want to share with you three lessons we can learn from Hammertime that you must apply in F1 23 to become a stronger virtual driver.

Before we dive in, let's address a necessary point…

It's foolish to consider a 7-time world champion just an average driver who got lucky with Mercedes.

Sure, the Silver Arrow played a crucial role in Hamilton's victories (find us a driver who won the championship with a bad car)...

…but we must acknowledge that Lewis is a phenomenon.

And here’s why.

Let’s break down the three greatest qualities of the English driver and how you can apply these valuable lessons in F1 23.

1. Master of Trail-Braking

But his greatest quality is his braking management.

In this phase of the corner, he has no rivals.

He can brake later than others without sacrificing speed at corner entry and exit.

The reason?

The 7-time world champion is a master of Trail-Braking.

In simple terms, trail-braking is the technique of braking and turning into the corner simultaneously.

Doing trail-braking with ABS off requires a lot of sensitivity because the risk is locking the wheels.

(By the way, we encourage you to turn off all assists if you want to get faster in F1).

Our advice is to brake hard with straight wheels, then gradually release the brakes as you turn into the corner.

2. Rain Wizard

When the track is soaked, Hamilton shines.

His extraordinary driving sensitivity allows him to feel the car’s limit even in extreme conditions.

Don’t underestimate driving in the wet in F1 23.

Learning to drive in Full-Wet conditions will develop incredible sensitivity that will also help you on a dry track.

If you don’t believe us…

Try doing 20 laps on a dry track, then another 10 in wet conditions.

Then, switch back to dry conditions, and you’ll notice the differences in terms of perceived grip, sensitivity, and confidence.

Remember: in the wet, you need to be GENTLE, smooth in your movements, and patient.

3. Winning Mentality

We challenge anyone to bounce back after what happened in Abu Dhabi in 2021.

The eighth world title, which would have made him the driver with the most world titles in F1 history, vanished on the last lap…

After dominating the race…

After an incredible end to the season.

What did good old Lewis do?

Did he retire?

No.

He picked up the pieces and returned to racing with the spirit of a 20-year-old.

The secret?

A winning mentality, something that is desperately needed at Maranello.

So, start building your mentality today.

Exercise: Replace “I can’t do it” with “I can do it.”

Replace “Turn 1 will be a disaster” with “I’ll steer clear of trouble and have a great race!”

Switch up your mindset, and we guarantee it’ll be smooth sailing.

To sum up:

  • Learn to trail-brake;
  • Practice a lot in the wet;
  • Develop a winning and positive mentality.
